While can make a drum for you in any depth you wish. The thinnest shell we've ever done is 3 inches deep, while the deepest drum was over 3 feet deep. Depth is all up to you.

As a general guide, typical session-use instruments don't need be deeper than ½ the diameter.  The best bet is to go for what is comfortable. Drums used for mic'd or recorded settings might benefit from being deeper, simply because the deeper shell makes the sound directional such that more sound can be captured by the microphone.  A good shell depth to start with for clear directionality would be about 10 inches. However, its your drum, and your choice!
